“Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives; the one who seeks finds; and to the one who knocks, the door will be opened.” Matthew 7:7-8
Have you ever found yourself praying and asking and seeking guidance for direction and a path, only to feel like the answer isn’t coming? Do you ever feel like you’re crying out and pleading from behind and around a big obstacle in front of you? And have you ever realized that that big obstacle is actually the answer you’ve been looking for and ignoring?
Too often we ask with a particular answer in mind: the answer we want, the path we would like to take, the plan we prefer. And so we march through our day, bumping up against this “thing” in our way, trying to push it aside or walk around it, only it’s a stubborn thing that just won’t budge. Sigh… Until one day, in our asking and pondering, we realize, “Oh, this ‘thing’ is the answer; it’s been here from the start of my asking. I’ve just been too whiny of a child to accept it.”
Yeah, we can act like whiny children with our Heavenly Father. And isn’t it good to know that He loves us through it, and still gives us His best? His best isn’t always easy or pretty or how we thought it would look, but when we trust Him and His plan, we can take the hand of that stubborn “thing” and walk with it to become refined and blessed and purposeful. And who knows, maybe the original answer we were looking for will be on the other side of that big “thing”, or we’ll discover a new desire and blessing far better than what we’d asked.
