Advent 2020

Advent. Coming. Jesus is coming.

The season of Advent is a time to focus on the promise and anticipation of the coming of the Messiah, Jesus Christ. We live in an age of knowing He has come and sacrificed and overcome, all for our benefit. Advent is a season to remember; to be in awe and marvel at the gift. It is a time to dive into His word, and draw nearer to Him.

I might be a couple of days behind to begin, but for me, I’m right on time. This year I have chosen to join the She Reads Truth community and read along through their 2020 Advent book. Additionally, I have made a tea Advent calendar for myself.

I might be a couple of days behind to begin, but for me, I’m right on time. This year I have chosen to join the She Reads Truth community and read along through their 2020 Advent book. Additionally, I have made a tea Advent calendar for myself.

I took a walk to the square this afternoon to Anna Marie’s Teas. I picked out 25 different teas and purchased single serving sample packets. Once home, I randomly tucked each sample into one of my envelopes that I’d made over the weekend and hung them on the wall. Voila. Tea Advent Calendar.

Tea Advent Calendar

Each day I will pair my tea with my reading and Advent devotion time. It might be past ten o’clock this evening, but for me, I’m right on time.

I’m looking forward to what God has in store for me as I read along and process, contemplate, and pray. For me, the holiday season has become a bit less shiny, a little less festive, but I believe in the One whom we celebrate. I believe He is in the less shiny, the less festive, and the struggle. And I believe He can and will do amazing things, in spite of it. Because Advent isn’t about shiny or festive, it’s about preparing our hearts for the One who was, and is, to come.

How are you preparing your heart this Advent season? Whether you join me in this She Reads Truth study or another one, I pray you discover joy in Jesus and in the anticipation of his coming birth – the reason we celebrate.
